During the summer of 2008 I will be riding a bicycle across America to raise awareness for immigrant rights. Once I reach the west coast, I will spend 6 weeks in the Arizona desert providing humanitarian aid to migrants with the organization No More Deaths. Beginning in the fall I will attend graduate school at Cambridge University in the UK. I am the descendant of Irish, Scottish, Italian, French, English and German immigrants.
No More Deaths is an organization whose mission is to end death and suffering on the U.S./Mexico border through civil initiative: the conviction that people of conscience must work openly and in community to uphold fundamental human rights. The principal activities are the Arivaca desert aid camp and the Mariposa Border aid station.
Regardless of politics, we must recognize that there is a severe humanitarian crisis happening in our own backyard and must respond in a way that preserves the dignity of every human life.
